Free dance workshops bring regional expertise to Trinidad and Tobago

Dance enthusiasts will have an opportunity to learn from experienced Caribbean instructors when two free workshops are held on Saturday 25 July 2026 at the National Cycling Centre in Couva, ahead of the CDC Regional Dance Classics.

Barbadian dance instructor Mark Burgess will lead a workshop on Latin Body, Arms and Actions, followed by Trinidad and Tobago’s Richard Boatswain with Club Style Cha Cha Cha. Both workshops are scheduled to take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The workshops form part of the activities surrounding the return of the CDC Regional Dance Classics to Trinidad and Tobago and are open to dancers and members of the public who want to develop their technique or experience social dance in an accessible setting.

Social dance includes a broad range of partnered dance forms practised for recreation, performance and competition. The workshops will give participants practical exposure to the body movement, styling and musical interpretation used across Latin and club-style dancing.

Interest in this year’s Classics continues to build, with steady registration and confirmation that a Barbadian contingent will travel to Trinidad and Tobago to compete. Their participation strengthens the regional character of the event and gives local dancers an opportunity to test their skills alongside Caribbean counterparts.

The Professional and Amateur Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago (PADATT) said the workshops are intended to extend the value of the competition beyond the competitive floor.

“The CDC Regional Dance Classics creates space for people to learn, exchange knowledge and experience the range of disciplines that fall under social dance. By making these workshops free, we are opening that experience to a wider public.”

The CDC Regional Dance Classics brings dancers together across different levels and categories, supporting the continued development of social dance as both a recreational activity and a disciplined competitive art form.

Participation in the workshops is free. Interested persons are encouraged to arrive early.
