Caribbean Dance Council Regional Dance Classics Returns to Trinidad and Tobago

Dance enthusiasts can expect an exciting display of talent, technique and regional camaraderie when the Caribbean Dance Council (CDC) presents the 2026 Regional Dance Classics at the National Cycling Centre, Couva, on Sunday 26 July.

Presented in collaboration with the Professional and Amateur Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago (PADATT), the championship will feature dancers from Trinidad and Tobago alongside a visiting contingent from Barbados competing across Ballroom, Latin, Club, Hip Hop, Conventional and Open Invitational categories.

For more than a decade, the Regional Dance Classics has provided dancers with the opportunity to test their skills against regional counterparts while promoting technical excellence, cultural exchange and professional development. Previous editions have been hosted in Antigua, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The championship forms the centrepiece of a weekend of dance activities. On Saturday 25 July, judges, scrutineers and volunteers will participate in training sessions, competitors will rehearse ahead of the championship, and members of the public will have the opportunity to participate in complimentary dance workshops.

This year’s event is particularly significant as PADATT celebrates 20 years of advancing dance education, professional development and competitive dance in Trinidad and Tobago. Since its establishment in 2005, the Association has played a leading role in developing internationally certified dance professionals, raising technical standards and fostering a culture of excellence within the local dance community.

President of PADATT and Vice President of the Caribbean Dance Council, Kenneth Wilson, said the event continues to strengthen relationships among dancers while raising the standard of competitive dance across the region.

“The Regional Dance Classics provides an opportunity for dancers to challenge themselves, learn from one another and celebrate the friendships and shared passion that unite the Caribbean dance community. We are delighted to welcome our colleagues from Barbados to Trinidad and Tobago and look forward to an exciting weekend of competition and learning.”

The event is also being supported by the National Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NDA) as one of several activities commemorating the Association’s 45th Anniversary Year, marking four and a half decades as the governing body for dance and dance culture in Trinidad and Tobago.

President of the National Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago, Alette Liz Williams, said the championship reflects the value of regional collaboration in advancing the art form.

“Regional partnerships are essential to the continued growth of dance. The National Dance Association is pleased to support the Caribbean Dance Council and PADATT in bringing this championship to Trinidad and Tobago during our 45th anniversary year. It is an opportunity not only to showcase excellence in dance, but also to celebrate the relationships that continue to strengthen our Caribbean dance community.”

Members of the public are encouraged to support the championship and enjoy an afternoon of high-quality competition featuring some of the region’s talented dancers.
