A benefit concert celebrating Caribbean dance, culture, and community — Friday, June 12th at 7:30 PM.
On Friday, the Naparima Bowl becomes home to one of the most anticipated dance productions of the season. UPINDE II: The Journey Continues is a live performance experience featuring dance, theatre, music, and collaborative storytelling — created and led by emerging Trinidad and Tobago dance artist Shemic St Hillaire.
Whether you are a longtime supporter of the arts or simply looking for a compelling night out, this is an event worth showing up for.
What to Expect
UPINDE II is not a standard concert. It is a full production — a journey told through movement, music, and Caribbean cultural expression. Expect powerful performances, a vibrant atmosphere, and an evening that stays with you long after the final bow.
The production draws on Shemic’s extensive training across the Caribbean and the United States, with performance credits including the Astor Johnson Repertory Dance Theatre, the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica, and a residency at Oberlin College. He also represented Trinidad and Tobago in UNESCO’s Transcultura Programme in Havana in 2025.
This is homegrown talent at its finest — and a rare opportunity to witness it live on stage.
Why It Matters
Beyond the performance, UPINDE II carries real purpose. The event is a benefit production supporting Shemic’s continued studies toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance and Choreography at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica — a journey that depends on community support to continue.
A portion of proceeds also goes toward providing sponsored access for young people from schools, youth groups, and community organisations who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend live professional performances. Your ticket does more than get you through the door.
